His is the southern-most municipality in Cantabria and probably one of the most beautiful. It covers practically the entire basin formed by the Ebro river when it leaves Cantabrian territory to the east. It is named after the river itself: Val de Ripa Hibre. The landscape is dominated by the high Castilian moors.Also erected in the Early Middle Ages were the rock churches of Arroyuelos, Campoo de Ebro and Santa María de Valderredible, built in the Mozarabic and repopulation styles. In Ruanales, we can admire a Bronze Age phalliforme engraving (a great phallus on a rock two metres tall) and the "rocky coat of the Cogular", which also belongs to the Bronze Age and shows simple black and red paintings of little men and tree shapes, as well as equestrian figures.

As for festivals, the capital of the municipality, Poliente, celebrates the Day of Valderredible on 7th August. On 25th July the descent of the Ebro takes place.

Potatoes and wild mushrooms are the most notable products in Valderredible cuisine. Potatoes are widely cultivated here and, despite limited production, the quality is excellent.
